Art is a means of expression for me similar to the way poetry is a means of expression for e. e. cummings or music is a means of expression for Yo Yo Ma. Art represents my internal and external character coupled with my strong intent for success. Having had the opportunity to spend 4 years studying fine art and ultimately focusing on Printmaking, not only did I grow as a human being, but the many experiences I had while attending Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia allowed my style as an artist to evolve.
The bold colors I use are often toned down by the soft, weathered colors of nature. The combination of organic elements such as twigs, leaves and flowers complement the natural tones and hues I use in my prints. Many of my prints are representative of extreme color comparisons and the way they react beside each other. The blocks of opaque colors are pressed right up against a transparent wash, enabling the textures and the layers of ink applied to the plate an expression of both my environment and myself. The honest reactions of my viewers are imperative to my development as an artist and the ever-changing processes. My influences include, but are not limited to Helen Frankenthaler, Jim Dine, Mark Rothko, and my maternal-grandmother, Amelia K. Solomon.
